Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that features a number of amenities aside from the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
