There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that features many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
