Cambodia Gambling Halls

Sunday, 10. August 2025

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that contains many comforts in addition to the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
